Stanley Shaut ’40 of San Diego, Calif., died Jan. 8, 2019, at the age of 100.
Mary Miller Smith ’40 of Oswego died Dec. 7, 2019. She taught in several school districts, including Averill Park Central and Baldwinsville Central in New York before returning to SUNY Oswego, where she was an associate professor of education for 22 years. She retired in 1977.
Francis Hyde ’42 of Asheville, N.C., died Sept. 18, 2019.
Barbara Stern Strauss ’42 of Scarsdale, N.Y., died Oct. 21, 2019. She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserves (Waves) during World War II. Surviving are three children and seven grandchildren.
Ann Cloonan Arata ’47 of Hyde Park, N.Y., died Nov. 6, 2019. She taught in the Hyde Park Central School District before raising her family. She later worked as a guide at the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt National Historic sites. Ann is survived by four children and seven grandchildren.
Florence Cox Venema ’47 of Hammondsport, N.Y., died Nov. 19, 2019. She taught in the Marcellus and Cato-Meridian school districts in New York before moving to New Providence, N.J., where she taught at Country Play Nursery School for 12 years. Flo is survived by four children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Norma Clark Parry ’48 of Tupper Lake, N.Y., died Nov. 28, 2019. She was an elementary teacher in the Walkill, Balmville and Lowville school districts in New York, and retired in 1992. Norma was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Parry ’49. Surviving are four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Robert Connal ’49 of Pittsford, N.Y., died Dec. 14, 2016. He is survived by three children and seven grandchildren.
Jane Penpeck Holdridge ’49 of Rome, N.Y., died Sept. 23, 2018. She taught in the Holland Patent (N.Y.) School District for several years. Jane is survived by three children, three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Theresa Izzo ’49 of Brookville, N.Y., died Feb. 21, 2017.
Herman Koenig ’49 of Clarksville, Del., died Sept. 11, 2019. He taught industrial arts in the Clarksville area for many years before becoming the career guidance and placement coordinator for the Indian River (Del.) School District. Herman retired in 1987 after 38 years with the district. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two daughters, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Measeck ’49 of Queensbury, N.Y., died April 25, 2015. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He earned a master’s degree at Colgate University. Kenneth was a teacher and vice principal at Glens Falls High School for 15 years. He later became director of pupil personnel services at BOCES, retiring in 1979. Surviving are his wife, Peggy, two children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Priscilla Deans Wilkinson ’49 of Linwood, N.J., died Aug. 12, 2017. She was an educator for more than 30 years. Priscilla is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Shirley Coe DeLyser ’50 of Palmyra, N.Y., died Feb. 12, 2019. She taught second grade in Marion, N.Y., and operated DeLyser’s Tavern in Macedon, N.Y., with her late husband, Larry, for many years. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Laurie.
Melvin Blieberg ’51 of Williamstown, Mass., died July 2, 2019. He earned a master’s degree at Hofstra University. He taught for many years in Islip before becoming principal then superintendent of the Islip School District, retiring in 1990. After his retirement, Mel served as a consultant to the Rensselaer-Columbia-Green counties BOCES (Questar III) in New York and later as interim superintendent of the Williamstown School District. Mel is survived by his wife, Rita, seven children, nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Philip Fragale ’51 of East Syracuse, N.Y., died Dec. 24, 2019. Phil began his more than three decades of military service when he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. After five years of active duty, he served with the Army Reserves, retiring as a full colonel. He spent many years in the Clinton (N.Y.) Central School District as a teacher and administrator, retiring in 1985. Phil spent three years after his retirement as the principal at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Clinton. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Jeffrey ’86, Jane McEachron, Susan Clancy and David; and 10 grandchildren.
John Kieffer ’51 of Brantingham, N.Y., died Aug. 31, 2019. During his career as an educator, he was a teacher and administrator in Ontario, Liverpool and Port Byron in New York. Jack retired from Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES in Ithaca, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife, Julanne “Judy” Amidon Kieffer ’52, on April 6, 2012. Jack is survived by four children, Gary ’80, Sheila Saroodis, Kathleen Barzee and Pamela Brewer; 12 grandchildren, including Jonah Kieffer ’19; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Richard Nostrant ’51 of Albany, Ohio, died Oct. 8, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dick earned a master’s degree at SUNY Buffalo. He spent several years teaching in New York State before accepting a position with the U.S. Department of State in 1965 to design, plan and facilitate the opening of teacher training schools in Brazil. In 1967, Dick left Brazil to accept a teaching position at Ohio University, where he remained until his retirement. Surviving are four sons, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mary Dutcher Regan ’51 of Oswego died Oct. 7, 2019. Mary was a kindergarten teacher for many years, and worked as a substitute teacher in the Oswego City School District while raising her family. She is survived by four children, Deborah Regan ’79, Catherine Broadwell, Mark and Jeff; seven grandchildren, including Alexandria Broadwell Buske ’15; and four great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Upcraft ’51 of Roseburg, Ore., died Oct. 19, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He taught in Valley Stream, Pawling, Camillus and at Buffalo State in New York before moving in 1958 to California, where he taught industrial arts until 1975 when he earned a master’s degree in library science degree. He retired in 1988. Surviving are two children, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ruth Mezger Henderson ’52 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died Dec. 5, 2019. She is survived by three children and five grandchildren.
Myriam Siegel Burda ’53 of Vancouver, Wash., died June 22, 2019. She worked as a library technician in Battle Ground (Wash.) School District libraries for 26 years. Mimi is survived by four children and four grandchildren.
Elizabeth Kelly Denton ’53 of Orlando, Fla., died Oct. 13, 2019. She taught in the Seminole County (Fla.) Public Schools for 27 years, retiring in 1996. Ann is survived by two daughters and two grandchildren.
Margaret Koseluk Gimbel ’53 of Maineville, Ohio, died Nov. 27, 2019. She earned a master’s degree from Nazareth College in 1975. Margaret taught in the Webster (N.Y.) Central School District for 22 years, retiring in 1988. She is survived by her husband, Gilbert ’52, three daughters, 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Alice Gorthey Kowalski ’53 of Fairport, N.Y., died Oct. 7, 2019. She taught in Syracuse, N.Y., before starting her family. Alice is survived by three children and six grandchildren.
Catherine Higgins Mitchell ’53 of Canyon Lake, Texas, died Nov. 19, 2019. Katie began her teaching career in Syracuse, N.Y., while her husband, James ’54, pursued a law degree at Syracuse University. Following law school, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force, and they were stationed all over the world. Katie earned a master’s degree from the University of South Florida. She taught English classes to U.S. servicemen in Okinawa, Japan, and stateside, she taught at elementary schools in a number of states, finishing her career in San Antonio, Texas, until Jim retired from the Air Force in 1987. Katie was predeceased by her husband, James ’54. She is survived by her sister, and nieces and nephews.
Constance Shannon Rice ’53 of North Syracuse, N.Y., died July 21, 2019. Connie taught in the Liverpool Central School District for 41 years, retiring in 1994. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Rice Krell ’78 and Scott Krell ’78; Karen Rice Reynolds ’80 and Thomas Reynolds; her grandchildren, Caitlin Reynolds Gilkey ’11 and her husband, Craig Gilkey ’10, Megan Krell, and James and Caroline Reynolds; and two great-grandchildren.
Kenvyn Richards ’53 M’63 of Oswego died Aug. 26, 2019. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945. His teaching career began in Middleburgh, N.Y., where he was an industrial arts teacher and coach for 12 years. After earning his Ed.D. at the University of Maryland in 1969, Ken returned to SUNY Oswego, where he taught industrial arts until his retirement in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Jane; and five children, Amy Richards Syrell ’73, Douglas, Patricia Polott, Audrey Richards Tripp ’81 and David; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Paul Tyner ’53 of Glenville, N.Y., died Sept. 22, 2019. He earned three master’s degrees through grants from the National Science Foundation. Paul began his teaching career in the Cato-Meridian (N.Y.) Central School District. From 1962 until his retirement in 1988, he taught in the Schalmont Central School District in Schenectady, N.Y. After his retirement, Paul taught at Schenectady Community College and taught computer science at the Schenectady County Jail. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, four children and eight grandchildren.
Margery Klock Connell ’54 of Auburn, N.Y., died Sept. 18, 2019. She taught in Auburn at Fulton Street School until it closed in 1970 and then at King Ferry (N.Y.) Central School until her retirement. Margery is survived by three children and two grandchildren.
Gerald DiCesare ’54 of Wayne, Pa., died Oct. 24, 2019. Following graduation from Oswego, he served with the U.S. Army for two years. He was an industrial arts teacher, guidance counselor and administrator at North Junior High in Newburgh, N.Y., until his retirement in 1989. Surviving are his wife, Barbara, their daughter and three grandchildren.
Joseph Donovan ’54 of Oswego died Nov. 15, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After graduation, Joe taught in Boonville and Westhill in New York. Then he returned to Oswego, where he was a teacher and counselor before becoming principal of Kingsford Park School for 17 years until his retirement in 1989. He is survived by three children and four grandchildren.
Gretchen Ernst Saker ’54 of Howell, N.J., died Nov. 19, 2019. She taught kindergarten in Freehold Township in New Jersey for 35 years and spent 15 years as a real estate agent. Gretchen was predeceased by her husband, Raymond ’51. She is survived by three children and one grandson.
Lawrence Marrish ’56 of Ancramdale, N.Y., died July 31, 2019. He taught industrial arts for the Hudson City (N.Y.) School District until he founded Nightwatch Lamp Company, where he designed custom-made lamps. Larry is survived by his wife, Linda, three children, five grandchildren two great-grandchildren and three step-children.
Merton Randolph Burritt ’57 of Schroon, N.Y., died Aug. 13, 2019. Randy is survived by his wife, Catherine, four daughters, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
John Proud ’57 of Mexico, N.Y., died Nov. 19, 2019. He served with the National Guard from 1957-1963. Jack began his teaching career in 1958 as a teacher in the Mexico Central School District. He went on to become a vice principal and secondary curriculum supervisor. In 1982, Jack became principal of Mexico High School, retiring in 1994. He also served as an Oswego County Legislator from 1995 until 2017. Surviving are his wife, Allie Youngs Proud ’59; a son, Randall Groves; and a granddaughter.
Thomas Shuba ’57 of High Point, N.C., died July 31, 2016, the alumni office recently learned. He worked as a guidance counselor in the Mt. Olive Township School District in Budd Lake, N.J., before retiring. Tom is survived by his wife, Bernadine Cordean Shuba ’54, two sons and two grandsons.
John VanOrder ’57 of Clayton, N.Y., died Aug. 9, 2019. Jack taught for many years in the Dryden (N.Y.) Central School District and was a self-employed contractor. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, and his daughter, Joan. He was predeceased by his brother, William VanOrder ’68.
Dorothy Lahue Walker ’57 of Camden, N.Y., died Oct. 11, 2019. She taught for 30 years at Camden Miller Schook, retiring in 1990. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Thomas, four children, seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Dominick Argona ’58 of Sebastian, Fla., died May 13, 2019. Nick served with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve for more than 30 years. He taught for a few years before becoming a Ship’s Master for General Electric. He then worked in labor-management relations for Xerox. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, two children and two grandchildren.
William Daskiewich ’58 of Boonville, N.Y., died Nov. 30, 2019. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He taught in the Rome (N.Y.) City School District from 1966 until his retirement. Bill is survived by his wife, Lois, three children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ann Marsden Hollop ’58 of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Dec. 1, 2018. She earned a master’s degree from Syracuse University. Ann taught in the Plattsburgh City School District for 25 years. She was predeceased by her mother, Marion Hennessey Marsden ’27. Surviving are three children, 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Claude Merrill ’58 of Coupeville, Wash., died Oct. 9, 2019. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Claude taught for 30 years in secondary schools and at the college level around New York State. He is survived by his wife, Karen, four children, two stepsons, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Salvatore Palazzolo ’58 of East Northport, N.Y., died Dec. 29, 2018. He was a teacher in the Bethpage Union Free School District in Bethpage, N.Y., for many years prior to retiring. He is survived by his wife, Natalie, and his children.
Nancy Trafton Waldron ’58 of Whitesboro, N.Y., died July 28, 2019. She earned a master’s degree at Upper Division College at Herkimer/Rome/Utica (now SUNY Polytechnic Institute) in the 1970s. Nancy founded her own real estate business, A Yankee Trader, which became a Century 21 affiliate. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Waldron ’58. Nancy is survived by two children and two granddaughters.
Harry Desens ’59 M’63 CAS’73 of Jackson, Tenn., died Aug. 20, 2019. He began his teaching career in Herkimer, N.Y., and more than 30 years later, retired as a principal in the Liverpool (N.Y.) Central School District. Surviving are his wife, Mary, three children, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Arlene Glasier Smith ’59 of Liverpool, N.Y., died Sept. 29, 2019. She taught in the Central Square and t General Brown Central school districts before raising her family. She later returned to General Brown as a substitute teacher. Arlene is survived by her husband, R. Steven Smith, three children, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Judith Kaiser Canzoneri ’60 of Seaford, N.Y., died Dec. 15, 2019. She was an elementary teacher for many years. She is survived by her husband, Salvatore Canzoneri ’59, and two sons.
Carolyn Guyle Hiler ’60 of Mexico, N.Y., died Dec. 11, 2019. She taught in Phoenix (N.Y.) Central Schools for two years, then in Mexico Central Schools for 35 years, retiring in 1997. Surviving are her husband, William; her daughter, Kathryn; her sister, Donna Guyle Rogers ’65; and several nieces and nephews, including Allison Rogers Capano ’94 and her husband, Keith Capano ’05.
Margaret Richardson Masters ’60 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died July 8, 2019. She was an educator, and became a principal in the Liverpool (N.Y.) Central School District before retiring. She is survived by her stepchildren, three siblings, and her nieces and nephews.
Charles “Pete” James ’61 of Verona, N.Y., died July 25, 2019. Pete taught for many years in the Rome City School District in New York, and worked as a roofer during the summer months. He is survived by his wife, Jean; five children, Beth Anne James, Lisa Markle, Lori Barbano-Curtis ’94, Christopher James ’90 and Peter Barbano; and four grandsons.
Frederick Lampman ’61 of Rome, N.Y., died Nov. 15, 2019. Fred was a teacher in the Rome City School District for 20 years before becoming principal at Rome Free Academy. He retired in 1995. Fred is survived by two children, Carolyn and Frederick, his sister, and several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Dahn DeFrancisco ’85 and her husband, John DeFrancisco ’84.
Edward VanAmerongen ’61 of Colonie, N.Y., died Dec. 22, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. He taught in the South Colonie School District for 25 years, retiring in 1987. Edward is survived by his wife, Ruth, three children, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
John Wheeler ’61 M’67 of Cadysville, N.Y., died Jan. 7, 2019. He earned an Ed.D. at the University of Buffalo in 1973. John was a teacher and administrator in several school districts around New York State before moving to New Hampshire, where he was superintendent in Jaffrey-Rindge School District from 1989 until his retirement in 1994. He was a supervisor of student teachers at Franklin-Pierce College for four years following his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, two children and a grandson.
Phyllis Lee Ormiston ’62 of Stamford, N.Y., died Oct. 31, 2019. She taught kindergarten at Charlotte Valley Central School, was the education coordinator for Head Start in Schoharie County and taught GED classes for BOCES in Grand Gorge. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Dick, two sons and four grandchildren.
Beverly “Bonnie” Brown Wilkins ’62 of Lexington, Mass., died Sept. 10, 2019. She earned a master’s degree at Lesley University and was a special education teacher in Lexington for many years. Bonnie is survived by her husband, George.
Gail Eule Dorr ’63 of Geneseo, N.Y., died Aug. 14, 2019. She taught art classes at the Leisure Learning School at SUNY Geneseo and was previously employed as a fundraiser, working on capital campaigns for the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester’s Child WXXI and the School of the Holy Childhood. She is survived by four sons and 10 grandchildren.
Rita Karl ’63 of Surprise, Ariz, died Nov. 22, 2018.
Stanley Syvertsen ’63 of Oneonta, N.Y., died Dec. 28, 2019. He earned a master’s degree at SUNY Oneonta. He taught industrial arts at Bugbee School in Oneonta until it closed in 1975. He taught briefly at Delhi Tech, then he and a business partner bought Shearer’s Express trucking company. They operated the business until they sold it and retired in 1999. Stan is survived by his wife, Linda, three daughters and four granddaughters.
Rosamond Cerio Bennati ’65 of Sherrill, N.Y., died July 17, 2019. She is survived by three children and five grandchildren.
John Carman ’65 of Nassau, N.Y., died July 5, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956. He taught in the East Greenbush (N.Y.) Central School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Mary Lou Jenkins Carman ’61.
Mary Connolly Ciappa M’65 CAS’76 of Oswego died Aug. 1, 2019. She earned a bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College and a special education degree from Syracuse University. Mary taught for 35 years, beginning in Red Creek before coming to the Alice E. Mackin School in Oswego and then Kingsford Park School. Surviving are her children, Conlee and Tom.
Mary Theresa Sweeney Hume ’65 of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., died Sept. 20, 2019. Terry taught in the Honeoye Falls-Lima School District for 31 years until her retirement in 1996. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey ’65.
Bruce Konkowski ’65 of Norwood, N.Y., died Aug. 24, 2019. He taught industrial arts at Madrid-Waddington (N.Y.) High School and was employed by ALCOA for 19 years, retiring in 1999. Bruce is survived by his wife, Barbara “Bonnie” Duke Konkoski ’67, four daughters and nine grandchildren.
Margaret Donahue Guyer Burke ’66 of Charlotte, N.C., died Oct. 25, 2019. She taught in Fulton and Tomkins Cove in New York for many years. Peg is survived by her husband, John, four children, five stepchildren, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Karen Walter Gerrard ’66 of Holland Patent, N.Y., died Oct. 13, 2019. Prior to her retirement in 2000, she taught in the Poland (N.Y.) Central School District. Karen is survived by her husband, Thomas, two children and seven grandchildren.

Marcus Bennett ’67 of Glenfield, N.Y., died Nov. 11, 2019. He taught industrial arts and technology for 36 years in the Lowville Academy and Central School, retiring in 2002. Mark is survived by his wife, Linda; six daughters, Michelle Rathbun, Lisa Wilkins Wicker ’93, Brenda Delaney, Sarah Shumway, Brook Bennett VanBrocklin ’06 and Heather Bennett Pleskach ’14; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Darlene Case Poormon ’68 of Fayette, N.Y., died Nov. 12, 2019. Darlene taught in the Seneca Falls (N.Y.) Central School District before raising her family. She resumed teaching in the Romulus (N.Y.) Central School District, retiring from teaching after 30 years. Darlene is survived by her husband, Kenneth, two daughters and four grandchildren.
Donald Strotman ’69 of Wading River, N.Y., died Sept. 1, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Liala Adham Strotman ’70.
Judy Wells ’68 of Carthage, N.Y., died Aug. 17, 2018. Prior to her retirement, she taught in the Carthage Central School District. Judy is survived by several cousins.
Robert Terry Young ’69, M’73 of Quogue, N.Y., died Sept. 15, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. He was a teacher and administrator in the Lindenhurst Public School District for 30 years. Along with his wife, Roberta, he managed the Surf Club of Quogue during the summer for 42 years. Surviving are his wife, Roberta Owen Young ’68, two children and four grandchildren.
Charles Popipero ’70 of Clearwater, Fla., died Oct. 9, 2019.
Robert Michael ’70 of Hudson, N.Y., died Sept. 18, 2019. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Bob was a technology teacher in the Hudson City School District for more than 40 years and was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, a daughter and two stepchildren.
Dorothy “Cris” Edgerton Schauss ’70 of Ocala, Fla., died Dec. 20, 2019. She is survived by two sons and two grandsons.
Elizabeth Schilling Sheldon ’70 of Camillus, N.Y., died Dec. 3, 2019. She earned master’s degrees at SUNY Cortland and the University of North Dakota. Betty taught at North Syracuse (N.Y.) Central School District for 35 years, retiring in 2006. She is survived by her husband, Timothy ’71, two daughters and two grandchildren.
Sandra Antley Herrick ’71 of Aiken, S.C., died Sept. 3, 2017. She taught at St. Angela Academy in Aiken, S.C., and retired as a guidance counselor with the Aiken County Public School District. Sandra is survived by two daughters and two grandchildren.
Mark “Morris” DeRegis ’72 of Los Angeles, Calif., died Sept. 13, 2019. He taught briefly in the Onondaga (N.Y.) Central School District before joining Kemper Corporation as an insurance claims agent. He is survived by his siblings, and nieces and nephews.
Sharman Oram Fitchett ’72 of Stuart, Fla., died Sept. 13, 2017. She had been a teacher at F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, N.Y., prior to her retirement. Sharman is survived by her husband, William ’74, two children and five granddaughters.
Alan Glogowski ’72 of Herkimer, N.Y., died Nov. 17, 2019. He began his career as a teacher at Delaware Academy in Delhi before joining the Village of Herkimer DPW in 1999, retiring in 2018. Al is survived by his wife, Chastity, a daughter and a stepson.
Frank Bakos ’73 of Maryville, Tenn., died Nov. 2, 2019. He earned a degree at Northwestern Michigan College in 1971, and a master’s degree at SUNY Buffalo in 1980. He had been a BOCES instructor and worked for Eastman Kodak before opening his own consulting business, Frank Bakos Associates. Frank is survived by his wife, Darlene, three children, five grandchildren and four brothers, including Paul ’73.
Gary Marcantonio ’73 of Glens Falls, N.Y., died April 12, 2016, the alumni office recently learned. He worked as a financial advisor and stock broker for several companies before opening his own business. Gary is survived by his wife, Carolyn, four sons and three grandchildren.
Charles Davis ’74 of Erieville, N.Y., died July 16, 2019. Charlie taught industrial arts technology in the Chittenango (N.Y.) Central School District for 32 years until he retired in 2006. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Caiella Davis ’73, two children and three grandsons.
Mary Ann Burmingham Fraser ’74 of Mattydale, N.Y., died Nov. 13, 2019. Prior to retiring in 2011, she was the assistant to the vice chancellor provost at Syracuse University for 30 years. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, William, three daughters, five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Robert Freeman ’74 of Camillus, N.Y., died Nov. 22, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Bob had been employed at Bank of New York, UNISYS, OnBank, the V.A. Hospital and Catholic Charities. He is survived by his wife, Ann, three daughters and two grandchildren.
Cathy Graves ’74 of Campbellsville Pike, Tenn., died Jan. 10, 2016, the alumni office recently learned. Before her retirement, she was a disability claims examiner for the State of Tennessee. Cathy is survived by her sister and brother, and her nieces and nephews.
Thomas Houck ’74 of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., died Oct. 27, 2019. He was employed in the automobile business until his retirement in 2013. He is survived by his daughters, Sara and Erin.
Elaine Gill Moore ’75 of Venice, Fla., died April 4, 2019. She was a substitute in the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (N.Y.) Central School District for the past 16 years. Surviving are her husband, Don; her son, Daniel; and her granddaughter.
Cheryl Bernier Breeney ’76 of Corinth, N.Y., died Sept. 14, 2006, the alumni office recently learned. She was a registered nurse and had been employed at Cook Willow Nursing Home in Plymouth, Conn. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Stephen, and three children.
Kathleen Warzecha Minwell ’76 of Ooltewah, Tenn., died April 6, 2016, the alumni office recently learned. While living in upstate New York, Kathy was an elementary and pre-school teacher. She is survived by her husband, Daniel ’76, and her sons, Gregory and Thomas.
Alan Olivenstein ’77 of Murrysville, Pa., died July 6, 2018. He was a cardiologist in the Pittsburgh area. He is survived by his wife, Maia, two sons and two grandchildren.
Mary Alice O’Mara ’77 of Oswego died Dec. 4, 2019. She worked as a registered nurse at Oswego Hospital for more than 40 years and was in charge of the nursing program and the volunteer program. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Patricia Schickling O’Mara ’30, and her siblings, Thomas and Carol O’Mara Edler ’60. Mary Alice is survived by her brother, Timothy, and nieces and nephews.
John Robinson ’77 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died Oct. 27, 2019. He earned an associate’s degree from Jefferson Community College and an MBA from Syracuse University. John worked as a logistics specialist for General Electric and Lockheed Martin, then became vice president of operations at Intersurgical Inc. until his retirement in 2011. Surviving are his wife, Cheryl, and a son.
Mary Patricia Saile Scott ’77 of Fairport, N.Y., died Oct. 2018. Mary Pat is survived by her husband, Jim, two sons and a grandson.
Robert Hamilla ’79 of Mahwah, N.J., died Sept. 25, 2019. Prior to his retirement in 2013, he was a systems programmer for IBM. Bob is survived by his wife, Ann; his parents, Peter and Joan; his siblings; and nieces and nephews.
Richard Sagehorn ’79 of Freeport, N.Y., died May 9, 2019. He was vice president of syndication for Associated Television International. Richard is survived by his life partner, Robert Barnett, and his stepdaughters, Salina and Angela.
Gerard Lux ’80 of Charlotte, N.C., died Aug. 1, 2019. He had been employed with Washburn Graphics and Copac Global Packaging. Jerry is survived by his wife, Julie Cole Lux ’80, three children and two grandsons.
James Martin M’80 of Syracuse, N.Y., died June 24, 2019. He attended Howard University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and was discharged in 1967. Jim earned an associate’s degree at Onondaga Community College and a bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College. He was an associate professor and counselor at Onondaga Community College for 30 years prior to his retirement. Jim is survived by his partner, Gwendolyn McKinnon, his siblings, and nieces and nephews.
Margaret McKenney Williams ’80 of Fulton, N.Y., died Nov. 22, 2019. Peg worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s dental practice and a substitute teacher in the Fulton City School District. She is survived by her husband, William; five children, Christopher, Joseph, Cynthia McKenney Ciesla ’01 M’05; Maria Johnson and Eileen Richardson; and 11 grandchildren.
Donald Cloonan ’83 M’91 of Oswego died Nov. 9, 2019. He was a teacher in the North Rose-Wolcott (N.Y.) Central School District for 31 years prior to his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Lori, his children and his grandchildren.
James Esposito ’83 of Wantagh, N.Y., died Sept. 6, 2019. He was employed with Anthem BC/BS in Manhattan. Jim is survived by his parents, John and Marie; his siblings, and nieces and nephews.
Christopher Anzalone ’84 of Mount Airy, Md., died Oct. 3, 2019. Christopher worked in book publishing for more than 30 years, eventually becoming a publisher. He is survived by his wife, Susan; his mother, Patricia; his children and his stepdaughters.
Alfred Genovese ’85 of Hyde Park, N.Y., died Nov. 21, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Stanfordville Auto Repair before returning to school in later years. Al earned an associate’s degree at Dutchess Community College. After graduating from Oswego, he worked as an auto mechanic instructor for the NYS Division for Youth in New Paltz until his retirement. Al is survived by his wife, Concetta, and his daughters and their families.
Kevin McBath ’86 of Waddington, N.Y., died Dec. 3, 2019. He earned an associate’s degree at SUNY Canton and worked in the Massena (N.Y.) Central School District in the technology department for 34 years. Kevin is survived by his wife, Gabrielle, two sons and his parents, Hollis and Eileen.
Jeffrey Cicora ’88 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died Aug. 10, 2019. Jeff earned an associate’s degree at Cayuga Community College. Beginning in 1992, he worked as a NYS Trooper, becoming sergeant and commander of the department’s Troop D barracks in Lysander. Jeff is survived by his wife, Valerie, and his son, Jack.
Andrew Marsjanik ’88 of Hannawa Falls, N.Y., died Sept. 13, 2019. He was the owner of AJM Residential Appraisal. Andy is survived by his siblings, and nieces and nephews.
Ruth Genagon Toth M’88 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died July 10, 2019. She earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport. Prior to retirement, Ruth taught in the North Syracuse Central School District. She is survived by her husband, Douglas, two sons and five grandchildren.
Mark Stanley ’90 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died Aug. 4, 2019. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. He was employed as a bank auditor with the FDIC. Mark is survived by his wife, Abbi; daughter, Yolanda; and stepson, Joseph.
Edward Demm ’93 of Oswego died July 1, 2019. He retired from the Oswego City Police Department after 20 years of service, and was employed at SUNY Oswego, following his retirement, for nine years. Ed is survived by his wife, Janet Cloonan Demm ’77; his children, Jordan, Caitlin ’05 and Patrick ’08; and two granddaughters.
James Hoffman ’93 of Akron, Pa., died Aug. 27, 2019. He worked for Wegmans Food Markets for many years. Jim is survived by his three daughters, Paige, Molly and Megan.
Jennie McCoy Maneeley M’93 of Watertown, N.Y., died Nov. 22, 2019. She earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh. She was an Army wife, and was stationed in many places around the world and the U.S. with her late husband, Ron. Jennie taught classes in Germany, and was an education counselor to soldiers working toward their college degrees at Ft. Polk. Surviving are her son, Gregory, daughter-in-law, Christine Hulbert Maneeley ’95, and three grandchildren.
Margaret Hartnett Foody M’94 of Aiken, S.C., died Oct. 14, 2019. She earned a bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College in 1967. She was a teacher and administrator in the Syracuse (N.Y.) City School District. Margaret is survived by her husband, Jerome, four sons and nine grandchildren.
Anna Kozel Roy M’94 of Oswego died July 28, 2019. She was a special education teacher. Surviving are her daughter, Jessica, and grandson, Nolan.
Teresa Grabler ’95 of Roanoke, Va., died Jan. 23, 2019. She is survived by her wife, Amanda.
Christine Amodeo Palmer ’95 of Huntington Station, N.Y., died June 13, 2015. She was a school librarian for the Huntington School District. Christine is survived by her husband, James, and son, Robert.
Susan Sprague ’95 of Watertown, N.Y., died Sept. 5, 2019. She earned an associate’s degree at Jefferson Community College in 1970. She was an information systems specialist at Jefferson Community College prior to her retirement. Susan is survived by four children, 15 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Tara Gardner ’96 M’03 of Mannsville, N.Y., died Dec. 22, 2019. She was a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology. She worked in advertising and graphic design in New York City and Syracuse for several years before beginning a new career as a teacher in the Sandy Creek (N.Y.) Central School District in 2003. Tara taught high school and elementary art for 16 years. She is survived by her father, David, and two children, Noah and Chloe.
Jeffrey Armstrong ’00 of Carthage, N.Y., died July 13, 2019. He earned an associate’s degree from Jefferson Community College in 1998 and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Empire State College. He worked as an associate senior accountant at Kall and D’Argenio’s CPAs. Jeff is survived by his parents, Bruce and Holly; his son, Trey; and his sister, Caitlin.
Kathleen LeBlanc Carr ’01 of Pulaski, N.Y., died Dec. 13, 2019. She owned Women’s Health Works in Pulaski for five years and a hair salon in Altmar for many years. Kathleen taught cosmetology at Jefferson-Lewis BOCES and was a substitute teacher at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown and Sandy Creek Central school districts in New York. She is survived by her husband, Tim, five children, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Marcia Livingston Folger ’02 of Watertown, N.Y., died Oct. 6, 2019. She is survived by her five children and their families.
Aaron Thorpe ’05 of Oswego died Dec. 12, 2019. He was the president of Vanguard Research and Title Research Services Inc. Aaron is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Gibbs Thorpe ’07, five children and a granddaughter.
Jacob Gardner ’09 M’11 of Oswego, Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing, died Sept. 3, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Tori Graham Gardner ’09; his parents, David and Mary Beth; and his brothers, Christian and Alex.
David Goyette ’09 of Scotia, N.Y., died Dec. 28, 2019. He was employed with Thermal Environment Sales for 37 years and created the curriculum and the lab for the HVAC/R program at Fulton Montgomery Community College, where he taught for several years. Dave is survived by his wife, Gloria; his mother, Jeanne; and four brothers.
Daisy Ruiz ’14 of Oswego, Assistant Director of Business Relations in the Office of Business and Community Relations, died Aug. 17, 2019. She is survived by her parents, Andres and Maria; her sisters, Wendy and Luisa; and her niece, Isabella.
Gregory Sullivan M’15 of Hartsdale, N.Y., died Oct. 20, 2019. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He had recently assumed the position of director of fiscal operations at SUNY Westchester Community College. Greg is survived by his mother, Maureen, and his daughter, Emily.
Richard Mayer, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, died in October 2019. He joined the Oswego faculty in 1967 and served as the department chair from 1967 to 1973. Richard retired in 1991.
Harold Nash, Professor Emeritus of Education, died Aug. 3, 2019. He served at Oswego from 1963 until his retirement on Dec. 19, 2002. Harry was a graduate of SUNY Brockport, Syracuse University and Peabody College. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine, two sons and four grandchildren.
Virginia Pratt, Associate Professor Emerita of History, died Sept. 11, 2019. She was a graduate of Allegheny College and Cornell University, and she earned a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota. She joined the faculty at Oswego in 1968 and retired in 1990.
