Frances Jones Eggleston ’36 of Venice, Fla., died April 12, 2019, at the age of 104. She taught in Palermo, N.Y., before taking time off to raise her family. Frances returned to teaching in 1959 at New Haven (N.Y.) Elementary School, where she taught until her retirement. She is survived by four children, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Gordon Waugh ’39 of Harrisville, N.Y., died March 2, 2019, at the age of 100. She taught briefly in a one-room schoolhouse in Lowville, N.Y., until her marriage in 1946 when she and her husband purchased Harrisville Hardware Company and operated it as Waugh’s Hardware until their retirement. Surviving are her three children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Richard Elton ’40 of Sun City, Ariz., died Jan. 12, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dick earned a doctorate in education at the University at Buffalo. In 1971 he retired from SUNY Brockport and moved to Sun City, where he was hired as a vice president at Glendale Community College. Dick is survived by his three children, Judith, Cynthia and Wallace Elton; and his companion, Theda Vickers. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie Smith Elton ’39.
Lyla Newstead Elen ’42 M’57 of Oswego died June 25, 2019. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse. In fall 1953, Lyla was hired at Mexico (N.Y.) Academy and Central School, where she taught until her retirement in June 1970. She is survived by her daughter, Constance Elen ’71; her son, Joseph; three grandsons and three great-grandsons.
Thomas Albee ’47 of Parish, N.Y., died Jan. 10, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned a master’s degree and certificate of advanced study from Syracuse University. Tom worked as a teacher and administrator in several school districts prior to becoming an assistant facilities planning coordinator at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. He retired in 1985. Tom is survived by four children, Russell ’82, Christine, Karen and Kathleen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Mae Johnson Albee ’42. Eugene Mayer ’47 M’56 of Lockport, N.Y., died Aug. 9, 2018. He taught at Lockport High School for many years. Surviving are his three children and eight grandchildren.
Michael “Joe” Brennick ’48 of Waterford, Conn., died Jan. 11, 2019. He taught industrial arts in the Larchmont-Mamaroneck (N.Y.) School District until his retirement in 1992. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Eleanor “Elly” Maloney Brennick ’49; two children, Michael Brennick and Michele Kripps; two granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.
Malvin Guralnick ’48 of Torrington, Conn., died April 26, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and earned a master’s degree from SUNY Albany. Mal worked with underprivileged youth at Berkshire Farm in Canaan, N.Y., and the Connecticut Junior Republic in Litchfield, Conn. He completed his career working with women with special needs at Riverbrook Residence in Stockbridge, Mass. Surviving are four children, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Michalski Moshier ’48 of Oswego died June 7, 2019. She was a teacher for 35 years. Betty taught at Kingsford Park School in Oswego for 25 years prior to her retirement. She is survived by her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jane Wright ’48 of Oswego died Jan. 15, 2019. She earned a master’s degree from Syracuse University and worked for many years as a librarian at Penfield Library on the SUNY Oswego campus. She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
Egidio “Gigs” Breda ’49 of Needham, Mass., died Dec. 18, 2017. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned his master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City. Gigs taught industrial arts for many years in the Bay Shore (N.Y.) School District. He is survived by two sons, Wayne and Gary, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Roy Christen ’49 of Jacksonville, Fla., died June 24, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and earned a master’s degree at Penn State University. He taught industrial arts at several upstate New York high schools before moving to Long Island, where he taught for 38 years at Robert K. Toaz Junior High School. Surviving are three daughters, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
John York ’49 of Fishkill, N.Y., died Feb. 9, 2019. He served with the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. Following his graduation from Oswego, he taught at the Berea Foundation School at Berea College in Kentucky and worked on his master’s degree at Penn State University during summer breaks. In 1953, John began working with IBM’s Manufacture Training Program, and he worked there as the assistant director of salary administration and personnel until his retirement in 1981. John is survived by his wife, Callie, two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Francis Sawicki ’50 of Summerfield, Fla., died Feb. 18, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Uniondale (N.Y.) School District, where he served as the assistant superintendent of schools. Frank is survived by his sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Rita Miller Wilkow ’50 of East Meadow, N.Y., died March 5, 2019. She taught at the Otsego School in the Half Hollow Hills Central School District in Dix Hills, N.Y., and retired in 1984. Rita is survived by her husband, Murray Wilkow ’48; daughters, Beth and Joy; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Charles Finley ’51 of Lyons, N.Y., died Jan. 15, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned a master’s degree from New York University. He was a teacher in Lewis County, taught at SUNY Oswego and was a Safety Educator for the NYS Education Department. Surviving are his six children and grandchildren.
Albert Hawk ’51 of Dansville, N.Y., died Oct. 15, 2018. He earned a master’s degree at SUNY Geneseo. Al worked in special education as a teacher and administrator, becoming the director of education with Craig Colony, later Craig Developmental Center, in Sonyea, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Marilyn Hawk Robin ’81 and Doug Hawk; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Charles Smith ’51 of Port Washington, N.Y., died Dec. 21, 2018. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned a master’s degree at Queens College. He was an industrial arts teacher and principal in the Port Washington School District for more than 30 years, retiring in 1987. Charlie is survived by his six children, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Joan Rasmussen Streeter ’51 of Fulton, N.Y., died April 23, 2019. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Fulton City School District for 30 years. Joan is survived by her five children, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Constance Vought Wilbur ’51 of King Ferry, N.Y., died Oct. 17, 2018. She had been a piano teacher and accompanist. Connie is survived by her husband, Dana Wilbur ’50; daughters, Chris and Betsy; and two grandchildren.
George Bamberger ’52 of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, died Dec. 29, 2018. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. George retired after a long career with the Brodhead Garrett Company. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Quinones Bamberger ’52; children, Gary, Gale Wasson and Scott; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Henning Haggblom ’52 M’55 of Somers, N.Y., died Aug. 4, 2018. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He pioneered driver education in Northern Westchester County and taught driver education and industrial arts in the Yorktown (N.Y.) Central School District for 33 years until his retirement in 1985. Henning is survived by his wife, Janet Somers Haggblom ’52; his children, Lisa Somers Billingsley ’77, Diane Crispell, Karin Abel and Amy Somers Finney ’88; and eight grandchildren.
Douglas Howard ’52 of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died March 17, 2019. He earned master’s and doctorate degrees from Syracuse University. Doug taught in New York, California, Hawaii, Bangkok, Virginia, Costa Rica and Australia. Doug spent the 12 years prior to his retirement working for the Department of Defense Dependents’ Schools in Korea, the Philippines and Japan. Surviving are his wife, Marcia, two children and two grandsons.
Ethel Collins Leal ’52 of Oswego died April 14, 2019. She taught in the Onondaga Central School District and at Minetto Elementary in the Oswego City School District for a combined 33 years. Ethel is survived by her nieces and nephews.
John Lembo ’52 of Rochester, N.Y., died March 24, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned a master’s degree from the University of Rochester. John worked in the Brighton Central School District for 32 years, first as an industrial arts teacher, then as a guidance counselor. He is survived by two children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Howard Sherman ’52 of Fort Myers, Fla., died May 17, 2019. After graduating from Oswego, he joined the Armed Services, working for the Army Intelligence Unit. After leaving the Army, he earned a master’s degree from Montclair State University in New Jersey. He was an industrial arts teacher and administrator for more than 30 years in New York and New Jersey. Howard is survived by his seven children, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his companion, Barbara Davis.
Barbara Stern Siegel ’52 of Woodbridge, Conn., died Jan. 19, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Bernard, five children and eight grandchildren.
Barbara Moody Lamb ’53 of Hampton, Va., died May 18, 2019. She earned a master’s degree from Syracuse University in 1958 and a second master’s degree at Hampton University in Virginia in 1990. Barbara worked at Hampton University for 38 years as a circulation librarian, head of the circulation department and Peabody librarian. She is survived by two daughters, a grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Edward Nostrand ’53 of East Northport, N.Y., died March 29, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy and was a guidance counselor for the Northport-East Northport School District for 37 years. Surviving are his wife, Doris, two children and a grandson.
Arthur Schilling ’53 of Waterford, Maine, died March 9, 2019. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Art began his career as a high school teacher. He later worked for Connecticut General Life Insurance for 30 years, managing the group pension offices in Buffalo and Detroit. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Keckeley Schilling ’53, three children and nine grandchildren. Russell Abrams ’54 of Port Richey, Fla., died Jan. 9, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned a doctorate degree from the College at Albany. He was a Professor of Education and Media at SUNY New Paltz from 1963 until his retirement in 1996. Russell also taught at the Fishkill Correctional Facility in Beacon, N.Y., during the summer. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, two sons and two grandchildren.
Bert-Mary Coon Brady ’55 of Lynn Haven, Fla., died March 29, 2019. She taught for 24 years in New York State and another 11 years in Hollywood, Fla.

Shirley Ullman Grubs ’56 of Greenville, S.C., died Jan. 26, 2019. She started her career as a teacher in the Rochester, N.Y., suburban area and later worked as a substitute teacher in Delmar, N.Y. Shirley is survived by three daughters and a granddaughter.
Henry Meyer ’56 M’65 of Mexico, N.Y., died March 16, 2019. He taught industrial arts at Mexico Academy and Central School for 33 years. Hank was also a NYS fire instructor for 10 years and an Oswego County fire cause and origin investigator for 35 years. He also established the Juvenile Fire Starter Prevention Program. He is survived by his wife, Louise, his four children, Louise’s children and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Baldwin Meyer ’60.
Anthony Pecorale ’56 of West Islip, N.Y., died Feb. 12, 2019. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He earned a master’s degree from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., and a doctorate degree from Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y. Anthony was the superintendent of schools of the Bayport-Blue Point and Lindenhurst School districts in New York. He was an adjunct instructor at Fordham University, LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y., and Stony Brook University. Surviving are his wife, Maria, five children and 10 grandchildren.
John Fiore ’57 of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., died May 30, 2019. He began his career in education as an industrial arts teacher at Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and later became the director of Dutchess County BOCES. John is survived by two children, four grandchildren and his stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
Phyllis Klepper Geringer ’57 of Raleigh, N.C., died June 6, 2018. She earned a master’s degree from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. She is survived by her husband, Sam, two daughters and five grandchildren. She is also survived by Sam’s three children.
James Milewski ’57 of Rome, N.Y., died March 22, 2019. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for the Rome City School District as a teacher, computer programmer and guidance counselor all while earning a master’s degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. After his retirement, he was a night school guidance counselor at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, N.Y., and a psychologist for the State of New York. James is survived by his wife, Alberta, two sons, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Patricia Ciaschi Reece ’57 of Canandaigua, N.Y., died Feb. 26, 2019. She earned a master’s degree from SUNY Geneseo in 1970 and taught English at Canandaigua Academy for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Pat is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William Reece ’58.
Donald Dickinson ’58 M’64 of Rochester, N.Y., died Jan. 29, 2019. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He began his career as a teacher for Marcellus (N.Y.) Central School before becoming a guidance counselor at Hilton (N.Y.) Central School and Tioga (N.Y.) Central High School. Surviving are his son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lee Porter ’58 of Redlands, Calif., died Jan. 23, 2019. He earned both master’s and doctorate degrees from Syracuse University. During his career as an educator, he worked at West Genesee Central Schools, Syracuse University, the University of Arizona and Roosevelt University in Chicago, Ill. Prior to his retirement 20 years ago, he was a professor of educational psychology and dean of the college of the College of Extended Learning at California State University San Bernardino. Lee is survived by his wife, Betty Ann.

William Burns ’60, M’65 of Watertown, N.Y., died March 29, 2019. Bill taught industrial arts in the General Brown Central School District in Dexter, N.Y., from 1962 to 1969 and in the Watertown (N.Y.) City School District from 1969 until his retirement in 1994. Joel Ehren ’60 of Jacksonville, N.C., died Feb. 11, 2019. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Joel taught in New York state for 12 years before moving to Jacksonville, where he taught for 25 years. Maurice Keroack ’60 of Zephyrhills, Fla., died April 21, 2019. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1961. Maurice taught in the Marcellus (N.Y.) Central School District, then at the University at Buffalo before starting the Plastics Education Foundation on Injection Molding and Safety in Albany. He retired from teaching at Del-Chew-Med-Otsego BOCES. Maurice is survived by four children, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his significant other, Marcella Pritchard.

John Sculley ’61, M’79 of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., died Feb. 3, 2019. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1954 to 1958. John was a school psychologist in the Oswego City School District and the School District of DeSoto County in Florida for many years before his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Lilla Keith Scully ’62; daughter, Caryann; sons, Michael ’86 and Brian; and four grandchildren, Mark ’19, Brett, Alex and Brianna.
Emmet Stopher ’61 of Syracuse, N.Y., died April 4, 2019. He taught in the Syracuse City School District at Shea Middle School for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Dean Walts ’62 of Morristown, N.Y., died June 26, 2019. He began his teaching career at Lansing High School, and in 1964 he took a teaching position at Canton High School, where he taught for 18 years. Dean also owned and operated Laurentian Pool Sales. Surviving are his wife, Suzanne, three children and five grandchildren.

David Mowry ’66 of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died April 22, 2019. He earned a Ph.D. from Boston University. David began teaching philosophy at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1971. He founded the college’s Honors Program and was the director for 25 years. In 2001 he was named a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor. He also received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Surviving are his wife, Ruth, a daughter and two grandchildren.

Mary Ann Robinson Mercier ’69 of Keswick, Va., died June 14, 2019. She earned a master’s degree at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1977 and a Ph.D. in psychology specializing in cognitive therapy at the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. She was associated with Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Rush Presbyterian and St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, and Columbia University in New York City. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Rick.
Diane VanTassel Mertens ’69 of Liverpool, N.Y., died April 17, 2019. She worked at Moreland & Sons Signs for more than 20 years and at Brighton Hill Chiropractic for over 30 years. She is survived by her children, Mark Goodwin and Brittany Mertens.
Leonard Zullo ’69 of Mechanicville, N.Y., died March 12, 2019. He taught for 22 years and was a realtor in both New York and Florida. Surviving are his wife, Elissa, and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Warren Kuchenbecker ’70 of East Poestenkill, N.Y., died April 22, 2019. Prior to retiring, he taught in the Troy (N.Y.) City School District. Renny is survived by his wife, Tonya; his children, Latefa Kuchenbecker Goldberg ’95, Keara Lombardi and Brendan; two stepsons and four grandchildren.
Frank Padalino ’70 of North Syracuse, N.Y., died Jan. 26, 2019. He worked for the federal government for over 30 years, retiring from the Department of the Treasury in 2001. Frank is survived by two daughters and five grandchildren.
Ben Gerardo ’71 of Rotterdam Junction, N.Y., died Jan. 27, 2019. He was a teacher and tutor for over 40 years, having taught at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and at Schalmont High School in Rotterdam. He is survived by his mother, Antoinette Gerardo, seven children and 10 grandchildren.
James Jerose ’71 of Liverpool, N.Y., died March 20, 2019. He earned a master’s degree at Syracuse University. He began his career in the health insurance industry with Blue Cross Blue Shield of CNY, PHP and RMSCO. He was later employed at the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center. Jim also operated his own consulting business, Nuvenu. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, two sons and his grandson.
Helen Wase ’71 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died June 19, 2019. She earned a master’s degree from Syracuse University and was a special education teacher in the Baldwinsville and Jamesville-Dewitt school districts in New York. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Sculley, a niece and a nephew.
Theresa Fosco Coffey ’72 of Stevensville, Md., died June 22, 2019. Terry is survived by her children, Kathleen and Patrick. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Coffey ’71.
Earnest Williams ’72 of Rochester, N.Y., died March 3, 2019. He was employed with a number of businesses, including Xerox, Compaq, Eastman Kodak and Cannon Burnett before starting his own business in 2012. Earnest is survived by his wife, Avis, a daughter, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
JoAnn Briggs Carroll ’74 of Arlington, Texas, died Nov. 11, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Jonathan, three sons and a grandson.
Timothy Kelly ’74 of St. Petersburg, Fla., died March 31, 2019. He worked in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill before moving to California. For the past 10 years, he worked as a fan host for the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. Tim is survived by his parents, Joseph and Agatha, and four siblings.
George Klump ’74 of Brockport, N.Y., died Jan. 30, 2019. He taught in the Greece (N.Y.) Central School District for 33 years. He had also been a member of the Brockport Fire Department since 1970. George is survived by his wife, Kathy, three daughters, three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

William McLachlan ’74 of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, died March 26, 2019. He is survived by two daughters and two grandchildren.
Anthony Rasemus ’74 of New York, N.Y., died on Sept. 21, 2018. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Upon graduation from Oswego, he moved to New York where he pursued an acting career before becoming a load-in technician and carpenter for Broadway theaters and scenic construction houses during the ’80s and ’90s.
Josephine Manasseri Adams ’75 M’80 of Dexter, N.Y., died Jan. 21, 2019. She taught for many years in the Watertown (N.Y.) City School District, retiring in 2009. She is survived by her husband, Michael, three children and five grandchildren.
Garry Austin ’75 of Wilmington, Vt., died April 14, 2019. He and his wife owned three bookstores in Maine and moved to Watertown, N.Y., to open a bookstore. They returned to Maine in 1994 and operated Austin’s Antiquarian Books until 2018. Garry is survived by his wife, Karen.
Thomas Barry ’75 of Rome, N.Y., died June 2, 2019. He was employed with Niagara Mohawk/National Grid for over 38 years, retiring in 2015. Tom is survived by his wife, Crystal, two daughters and a granddaughter.
Mildred Ellison Jeffers ’75 of Red Creek, N.Y., died Feb. 16, 2019. She was a teacher in the Red Creek Central School District until her retirement. Mickey is survived by her husband, Charles, three children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Bruce Capron ’76 of Westernville, N.Y., died Feb. 1, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973, then with the U.S. Army Reserves until 1977. He was employed as a computer programmer at Revere Copper & Brass Co. and at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. He and his wife operated several farms. Bruce is survived by his wife, Barbara Stafford Capron ’76, and four children.

Salvatore Caputo ’77 of Huntington, N.Y., died Aug. 6, 2017. He was a chiropractor for many years, having earned his degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He is survived by his wife, Debra Brown Caputo ’78; and his four children, Michael, Kathryn, Thomas and Stephanie.
Richard Mattice ’77 M’85 of Pennellville, N.Y., died Sept. 23, 2018. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Richard was previously employed by General Electric and retired from SUNY Oswego after 20 years as an audio-visual coordinator. Surviving are his wife, Nelma Hyvonen Mattice ’56, four children, three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Cathy Riley Quarantello ’77 of Keller, Texas, died March 13, 2019. She is survived by her husband, John, two sons and her granddaughter.
Douglas Read ’77 of Palm Beach, Fla., died June 1, 2019. He earned a master’s degree from Towson University in Maryland in 1992. He had a career as a teacher and designer of products for Black and Decker, then spent almost 20 years as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Doug is survived by his husband, Wayne Wenzel, and his mother, Marilyn Munger.
Peter Roosa ’77 of Amenia, N.Y., died Jan. 11, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Peter was an industrial arts teacher at Fishkill Correctional Facility and later worked as a salesman at Audia Motors for 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, a son, a stepson and four grandchildren.
Timothy Ryan-Pepper ’77 of Albany, N.Y., died Feb. 14, 2019. He worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for 23 years. Tim is survived by his wife, Alberta Ryan-Pepper ’77, and his children, Jeffrey and Kathryn.
David Stankavage ’77 of Kingston, Penn. died March 19, 2019. He was an account executive with various television and radio stations in the Binghamton and Scranton area. David officiated high school football in the Binghamton area and played minor league professional football for the Scranton Eagles. He is survived by his brothers, John and Donald.
Paul Chebetar ’78 of Spring, Texas died March 9, 2019. He taught in the Houston area for many years before starting a career in real estate. Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce, four children and two grandsons.
Thomas Dudarchik ’78 of North Syracuse, N.Y., died April 22, 2019. He worked as a manufacturing supervisor for a number of companies, most recently Syracuse Stamping. Tom is survived by his partner, Wendy Ager; his father, Thomas; and his siblings.
Kathleen Moser Cole ’79 of Hector, N.Y., died March 21, 2019. She worked in fundraising and institutional advancement, and spent the past 17 years as owner and president of West Wind Consulting. Kathy is survived by her husband, Chris; daughters, Jenna and Jillian; and two grandchildren.

Edward Fabian ’81 of North Babylon, N.Y., died March 22, 2019. He served with the U.S. Army for more than 32 years. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; his parents, Edward and Rosemary; his siblings; his stepchildren and step-grandchild.
Landa Hammond ’82 of Oswego, N.Y. died June 24, 2019. She was the practice administrator at Port City Family Medicine. Surviving are her sister, Debra Hammond Keating ’79, and her niece, nephew and great-niece.
Keith Himes ’82 M’91 of Port Charlotte, Fla., died April 25, 2019. He was a music teacher in the Mexico (N.Y.) Central School district for 30 years, retiring in 2016. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Queiroz ’13.
James Anziano ’83 of Miller Place, N.Y., died June 10, 2017. He taught in the Farmingdale and Miller Place school districts. Surviving are his wife, Joan, five children and three grandchildren.
Elma Howell Beall ’83 of Wake Forest, N.C., died Sept. 12, 2017. She worked as the office manager for the Campfire Girls for many years and later for Thermal Systems. She is survived by her daughters, Joy Wheeler Oliver ’70 and her husband, Al Oliver ’70, and Debra Gale; three stepchildren; six grandchildren, including Rebecca Oliver ’07; and two great-grandchildren.
David Bentley ’83 of Anchorage, Alaska, died Sept. 1, 2017.
Michael Lewis ’83 of Little Rock, Ark., died Jan. 14, 2019. He was the service manager at Lewis AMC/Jeep until 1980. He earned a master’s degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 1984. He was a historian and curator at Colonial Williamsburg before moving to Little Rock, where he worked at the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Old State House and the Arkansas History Commission. Michael is survived by his wife, Joanna.
Barry Goldstein ’84 of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., died March 16, 2019. He was a Westchester County Deputy Sheriff for 18 years, having recently been promoted to captain. Barry was also a member of Croton Emergency Medical Services and Harmon Engine Company/Croton Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and daughters, Samantha and Katie.
Kathleen Snow Goltermann ’84 of Liverpool, N.Y., died Dec. 27, 2017. She retired from the Baldwinsville (N.Y.) Central School District in 2013. Kathy is survived by her husband, Dennis, and her children, Megan and Justin.
Deborah Polaski ’85 of Fillmore, N.Y., died March 1, 2019. She began her teaching career in South Carolina and then moved to Florida in 1997. She taught in several districts until retiring from Wharton High School in Tampa in 2013. Deb is survived by her boyfriend, Vern Ferguson, and two brothers, Dennis and Daryl.
Cheryl Datlo Spina ’85 of North Syracuse, N.Y., died April 24, 2019. She worked in law enforcement for more than 34 years, retiring as a deputy with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. She is survived by her mother, Frances Moskow; brother, Bob Datlo; and her longtime companion, John Furness.
Edward Verdi ’85 of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla., died Feb. 22, 2019. He was employed with Black Clawson-Davis-Standard in Fulton for 17 years. In 2005, he took a position with the New School University in New York City as director of purchasing and was most recently assistant vice president of business operations. Ed is survived by his husband, Bill Morton.
Lisa Rabinowitz ’87 of Bridgewater, N.J., died May 23, 2019. She earned a J.D. from New York Law School, practiced law for private firms and was a litigator for the City of New York. Lisa is survived by her partner, Beth Wutzke; son, Jacob; parents, Nancy and Paul; and her siblings, David and Carol.
Michelle Brisson ’89 of Syracuse, N.Y., died June 8, 2019. She co-owned an art and publishing business for two decades. Michelle is survived by her spouse, Amy Bartell ’86; and three brothers and their families.
Lynne Kelly M’89 CAS’89 of Baldwinsville, N.Y., died June 4, 2019. She graduated from SUNY Canton and earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo. She was a teacher and principal in the Syracuse City School District. Lynne is survived by her sister, Chris Kelly.
Andrea Schrader ’89 of Providence, R.I., died June 4, 2019. She worked in public relations in New York City and Boston before starting her own public relations firm, Kryptonite Communications. Andrea is survived by her brother, Matthew, and a large extended family.
Theodora Wasiluk Casson ’90 of Camillus, N.Y., died June 14, 2019. She earned a master’s degree from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., and was a senior surety underwriter at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for 24 years. Dora is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Delaney and Samantha; and her mother, Sophia Wasiluk.
Harold Grunenwald M’90 CAS’00 of Kingston, N.Y., died on Feb. 6, 2019. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Siena College. Harold was a teacher and administrator for 30 years in the Chittenango Central and South Lewis Central school districts, and in the Hudson Valley in New York. He is survived by his wife, Susan, four children, seven grandchildren and his mother, Shirley.
Elizabeth Cummings Monroe ’90 of Cazenovia, N.Y., died Jan. 27, 2019. She was a graduate of Onondaga Community College and was employed as a dental hygienist. Elizabeth also owned her own art studio in Cazenovia. She is survived by her husband, Matthew; children, Nicholas and Christian; and her mother, Julia Cummings.
Jeffrey Kline ’97 of Norfolk, Va., died June 21, 2019. He served with the U.S. Navy and earned an advanced degree at Old Dominion University. Jeffrey was a technology education teacher for the past 22 years in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. He is survived by his companion, Heide Richards, three sisters and their families.
Brian Pringle ’01 of Fulton, N.Y., died Dec. 17, 2018. He earned an MFA at Stony Brook University in 2006. He was an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Cayuga Community College. He is survived by his mother, Faye Elaine Best ’89; his father, Russel Pringle; and six siblings, including Walter Best ’01.
Adam Conway ’02 M’07 of Baldwinsville, N.Y. died Jan. 22, 2019. He taught at Richfield Springs (N.Y.) Central School District and substituted at Baldwinsville Central School District. Adam is survived by his parents, Michael and Maureen, and his brother, Brian.
Brendan Lynch ’02 of Liverpool, N.Y., died Feb. 3, 2019. He was employed with Nurx as a technician and was the owner of Medieval Ink, an online T-shirt business. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Marshia; and his siblings, Sean, Meghan and Katie.
Thomas Kelly ’03 of Long Beach, N.Y., died March 23, 2017. T.J. is survived by his parents, Tom and Janice; and his sisters, Dawn and Meghan.
Michael Sayles ’03 of Rochester, N.Y., died June 28, 2019. He was also a 1995 graduate of SUNY Cobleskill. He was a supervisor and IT specialist with Paychex. Surviving are his mother, Beverly Sayles; and his siblings, Gregory and Laurie, and their families.
Aziz Goksel ’07 of Istanbul, Turkey, died Feb. 15, 2019. He worked in Artists and Repertoire for Atlantic Records in New York City prior to his retirement and achieved a Grammy and a gold record. He is survived by his mother, Selma, two children, two granddaughters and his life partner, Donna Kuzio.
Cathy Lam Davius ’15 of Grand Prairie, Texas, died June 5, 2019. She is survived by her husband, Christopher Davius ’15.
Fred Bartle, Associate Professor Emeritus of Political Science, died Feb. 18, 2019. He graduated from NYS College for Teachers (now University at Albany) and Syracuse University before joining the Oswego faculty in 1956, where he taught for 30 years. Fred is survived by his daughters, Susan Perrin and her husband, Michael Perrin ’84, and Gamin McBride and her husband, Mike; two grandchildren; and his stepson, Robert Longley.
Pamela Cox, Professor of Management, died May 15, 2019. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Colgate University, an MBA from SUNY Binghamton and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University. She joined the Oswego faculty in 1997 as an adjunct instructor, became a tenure-track assistant professor in 2000 and a full professor in 2010. Pam served as the School of Business associate dean from 2008-2009. She is survived by four children, her granddaughter and her mother.
George Crowe, first men’s hockey coach at Oswego, died Jan. 6, 2019. He was the coach at Oswego from 1964-1969 and went on to coach at Phillips Exeter Academy and Dartmouth College, where he coached the men’s team from 1975-1984 and the women’s team from 1986 until his retirement in 1998. George is survived by his wife, Barbara, three daughters and four grandchildren.
Douglas Deal, Professor of History and Director of General Education, died April 23, 2019. He earned degrees at Harvard and the University of Rochester. He came to Oswego from Cornell in 1982, and after 30 years at Oswego, he retired in 2011. Doug is survived by his wife, Ellen Hornig, Associate Professor Emerita of Economics, and four children.
Joseph LeFevre, Professor Emeritus of Organic Chemistry, died Jan. 10, 2019. He was appointed to the Oswego chemistry department in 1985 and retired in 2015. He received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1994. Joe is survived by his wife, Linda, and three children.
Robert Maurer, Associate Professor Emeritus of Earth Sciences, died Dec. 21, 2018. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and earned a bachelor’s degree at Ohio State University and a Ph.D. at the University of Utah. He joined the SUNY Oswego faculty in 1966 and retired in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Joan, three stepchildren, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Raymond O’Donnell, Associate Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, died Feb. 1, 2019. He studied at Loyola College of Baltimore and the University of Minnesota, and earned a Ph.D. at Michigan State University. Ray was appointed to Oswego’s chemistry department in 1964 and served as the coordinator of the chemistry graduate program from 1970 until his retirement in 2006. He is survived by his children, Raymond, Brigid Figliuolo-Chetney, Judith, Shawn ’88 and Maureen O’Donnell Sanchez ’87; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Zabel Sarian, Associate Professor Emeritus of Art, died Nov. 20, 2016. She earned a bachelor’s degree at SUNY Buffalo State College and a graduate degree at Columbia University Teacher’s College. While at Oswego, she taught art history and drawing.
Alfred Stamm, Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Meteorology, died May 23, 2019. He earned a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and a master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin before joining the Oswego faculty in January 1977. He received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service and the President’s Award for Scholarly Activity and Research. Al is survived by his wife, Virginia, and three children.
Joseph Wiecha, Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of Modern Languages and Literatures, died April 29, 2019. He served with the Polish Corps British VIII Army from 1944-1947. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the National University of Ireland in 1950. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1955 and earned a Ph.D. at New York University in 1963. He taught German and Spanish at Oswego from 1963 until his retirement in 1992. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Wiecha, who taught in Oswego’s English Department. He is survived by three sons and five grandchildren.
