Men’s Soccer Welcomes New Head Coach
New Head Coach Dan Kane took the helm of the men’s soccer program on April 3.
Kane comes to Oswego after pioneering the men’s soccer program at Wells College over the past eight seasons. During that time he steadily increased the program’s success, including a second-place finish in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship in 2015.
The Skaneateles, N.Y., resident was named NEAC Coach of the Year during that season on the heels of the Express posting a 13-win season, including nine wins in the conference, both of which set school records. His teams were a two-time NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Silver Award recipient, bestowed upon squads that complete a season with less than five yellow cards and no red card infractions.
Magnussen Hired to Guide Cross Country Programs
Evan Magnussen was hired as new head cross country coach for the Lakers. Magnussen is also the assistant coach for the track and field programs.
A four-year cross country and track and field student-athlete at St. John Fisher College, Magnussen spent the past year as a staff assistant with the Cortland track and cross country programs. For the past two years, the Geneseo, N.Y., native also was a running instructor and coach for Finger Lakers Running Co.
In his time with the Red Dragons, he helped seven student-athletes qualify for NCAA Championships, four reaching All-America status and one a national title in the heptathlon.
