For the first time in the 95-year history of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), more than 700 teams have received Scholar All-America recognition. Included among the teams was Oswego State women’s swimming and diving.
This marks the 14th time in the last 17 semesters that the women’s swimming and diving team has been named a Scholar All-America team, as the CSCAA produces the list for both semesters each academic year. Oswego carried a 3.17 GPA and joined fellow-SUNYAC teams Cortland (3.05), Fredonia (3.31), Geneseo (3.32) and Oneonta (3.32) on the list.
In total, 720 teams, representing 443 institutions achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the spring 2017 semester. Part of the reason for the increase in award-winning teams is the overall growth of the sport. The number of men’s and women’s institutions sponsoring swimming and diving is at a 10-year high.
