In preparation for the sometimes-volatile Upstate New York climate, SUNY Oswego’s University Police recently earned a StormReady designation from the National Weather Service. To earn this designation, the department had to demonstrate to the National Weather Service that it met all of the agency’s criteria, including emergency communications, weather monitoring equipment, National Weather Service reception equipment and local warning dissemination, in addition to providing educational information through training programs, the department’s website, Facebook and informational programming, according to Kevin Velzy ’83 M’14, assistant chief of University Police.
